The Community Charter lays out how cities in the province, excepting Vancouver, organize themselves. Chilliwack should have eight city councillors and one mayor, according to the Community Charter, but we only have six councillors and one mayor in a city double the size of the 50,000 population threshold for eight city councillors. A wildland-urban post-fire case study: The Grouse Complex
"In August 2023, a combination of factors – strong winds, rugged topography, and extremely dry fuels from a long-term drought – led to three destructive wildfires in the Okanagan Lake area of south-central BC. The McDougall Creek, Walroy Lake, and Clarke Creek wildfires, known as the Grouse Complex, burned 15,076 ha, led to the evacuation of approximately 30,700 people on 12,100 properties, and impacted 303 structures."
