Food & Farmers

Food Security
Six years ago, I became one of the founding directors of the non-profit Downtown Chilliwack Community Market. Our goal is to connect families, individuals, and seniors with healthy, local food, benefiting both our farmers and the wider community and promoting food security, sustainability and Indigenization. The market is downtown because that's where the need is most keenly felt. I'm incredibly proud that we've partnered with the BC Association of Farmer's Markets and local organizations to give away more than $100,000 worth of food in the past five years.
Supporting Local Businesses and Farmers
Local businesses matter. Chilliwack's downtown has become a destination and we need to create conditions that allow those local businesses to thrive. At the same time, agriculture is the largest industry in our city. Farmers are business people too and we need their products to feed our community.
Environmental Values
Environmental values go together with sound financial decisions to protect our community's health.
